Caydens' Myotonic Dystrophy Journey
In 2017 we were able to get then Van!
Thanks to everyone who assisted us with this!
We originally started this page to raise funds for our family to purchase a new wheelchair accessible van. Cayden weighs well over 35 pounds and is a very tall boy with long legs. Lifting him into and out of his car seat was a constant struggle.
We were fortunate enough to receive a special stroller system from Muscular Dystrophy Canada a few years ago. It has three different uses; it is a bike cart so Jason can take him for bike rides in the summer, it is a high chair that can be raised or lowered for whatever it is we’re doing and it is also a wonderful stroller with wheelchair tie-downs. This system has a retail value of $10,000 so we like to use it as much as we possibly can.
Our family thanks everyone from the bottom of our hearts for the continuous support that family, friends and the community has so generously given to us. It has been an interesting and very emotional three years for us but the support whether it be monetary or for just being there has always been something that we could count on. It is always an extremely humbling experience for me to see how generous people are towards us and our family and we are truly blessed to have these people in our lives.
In June 2017 we signed the papers to purchase the van through Brandon Chrysler Dodge in Brandon. It has now been returned to us from Move Mobility in Winnipeg getting modified with the wheelchair ramp system and we are starting to get into the groove!
We want to thank the following charities for approving grant money to aid in the purchase of the van:
-Presidents Choice Children’s Charity
-Muscular Dystrophy Canada
-Westman Dreams for Kids
-Brandon Firefighters
-Chrysler Dodge Jeep
-Brandon English Society
-CWL Brandon
-BPS Clerical Staff Pay It Forward Fund
And of course without the help of family, friends and the community we would have never been able to secure the purchase of this vehicle!
We also sincerely want to thank everyone who attended our fundraising social at Danceland in Clear Lake! It was a huge success!
A special shout out to our friends and family that worked their butts off to make the event run smoothly!
